Hutchie Catering & Caribbean Restaurant

Everyone was so warm and welcoming when we walked in. So nice to chat with the man himself aka Hutchie and his wife. Standard order tasted great and was a good portion… jerk chicken rice and peas with oxtail gravy.

A mind-blowing fusion of land and sea, the jerk salmon is slathered with a generous dose of jerk paste, that offers a delightful balance of smoky, acidity and a subtle sweetness in each bite on top of one of my favourite fishes. The moist rice is the perfect canvas for absorbing the unbelievably delicious oxtail curry, delivering a meaty, beefy explosion of umami with each bite. Sauteed bell peppers and boiled veggies accompany the stars, providing contrasting textures and vibrant colours. Despite its browner appearance, the goat curry was the highlight. The rich curry flavours permeated throughout each bite, the soft rice, creamy beans, and the harmonious mix of lean and fatty cuts of goat. Each tender bite retains that distinct lamb flavour I adore, and not a single molecule of curry was wasted today.

We always drive by this place and have wanted to stop by for a while, finally did tonight. As soon as you walk in you get a warm welcome, the dinner rush had just left so we had the whole place to ourselves. We ordered a fried chicken, and a jerk chicken / curry chicken combo. The food was excellent; the fried chicken was perfectly golden and crunchy, the jerk chicken and curry chicken was tender and very well seasoned with the perfect amount of heat; the presentation was 10/10. Definitely coming back to try the rest of the menu and the red peas soup! Great neighbourhood gem for Caribbean dine in or take out with friendly staff.

I have had jerk chicken all over the city and beyond and this place blew me away. The flavour was some of the best I have ever had and the presentation was in a league of it’s own. The rice and peas with gravy and coleslaw were excellent. The home made hot sauce also was delicious! Small family restaurant with a nice patio and great seating. The service and the price was great and the owners were such nice people! Worth the trip to Gerrard and Main to try this restaurant!

I visited this restaurant on June 20th 2025. Having been to Jamaica 2 times I would rate this jerk chicken and pork the best I’ve ever had! The service was excellent, great ambience with spectacular presentation. I also recommend the ginger beer mule and sorrel. Chef/owners Nigel and Lisa greeted us and explained the food in detail. A great destination for a date or family gathering.

They really are a friendly restaurant giving off such a welcoming vibe when you first walk in. The food was fantastic. Surprised me and my friend and I were able to finish everything on the plates. That's just how good it was!
